Semi crash causes manure spill
YELLOW MEDICINE COUNTY — A semi truck crash severely injured one person and spilled about 1,000 gallons of liquid manure north of Clarkfield on Wednesday morning, the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office said.
At 10:07 a.m. Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office received a call of a semi tanker crash just north of Yellow Medicine County Road 5, in Lisbon Township. A news release from the Sheriff’s Office said the semi tanker, driven by Richard Jurgenson, 83, of rural Montevideo, was traveling north on 400th Street when it went into the ditch and overturned. Jurgenson was wearing a seat belt, but he needed to be extricated from the truck by the Clarkfield and Boyd fire departments, the Sheriff’s Office said. Jurgenson was taken to the Montevideo hospital by Clarkfield Ambulance, and later flown to North Memorial Medical Center with severe injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The tanker was loaded with liquid manure, and about 1,000 gallons of manure spilled as a result of the crash, the Sheriff’s Office said. Officials contacted the Minnesota Duty Officer, and conducted a cleanup of the manure. The incident is still under investigation, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The Lac Qui Parle County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota State Patrol also responded at the scene of the crash.
