Incident under investigation by Granite Falls PD, Minnesota BCA
GRANITE FALLS — Law enforcement is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a person whose body was found in the Minnesota River on Tuesday, Granite Falls Police said. Law enforcement is asking the public to contact the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office if they have any information about the person, or on what might have happened to them.
In a Tuesday news release, the Granite Falls Police Department said officers were called to a scene near U.S. Highway 212 and Minnesota Highway 23 around 11:50 a.m. A man walking along a nearby path spotted a body in the water and called 911, Police said. The body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for formal identification, and to determine cause of death.
Police said at this point, investigators believe that the person’s death is not suspicious, and there is no danger to the public.
The Granite Falls Police Department is being assisted in the investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said additional information on the incident would be released after a preliminary autopsy and family notifications. More information would also be released as the investigation progresses, they said.
