Waiting for a train

When I have waited for a train to pass in Marshall, I’ve had the thought, what if an emergency vehicle had to get through and this train is taking its time, slowing down, stopping, backing up? I thought it probably doesn’t happen.

Well, an ambulance that had whizzed by me on Highway 68 going east this morning was cooling its heels at the train track by Cattoor’s. I hoped whomever it had in there was not in a life or death situation. This was the longest wait I’ve ever experienced. Finally, the ambulance took an alternate route and so did I. The train is probably still there, taking its time, slowing down, stopping, backing up...
