| | Bullish on ColorosoMarch 23, 2010 - Karin EltonJust attended author Barbara Coloroso’s presentation to fifth through 12th graders on bullies. I’ve written/read about bullies before, so I wasn’t real excited to attend this. However, Coloroso was really good and gave the kids tips about what to do if you are bullied or see it happening. She said it starts as verbal abuse and can escalate to hate crimes and even genocide. She got the kids onstage to act out bullying situations which is a really savvy thing to do instead of just lecturing. After the presentation, many kids raised their hands to ask thoughtful questions. I was kind of surprised at the enthusiastic response. I was impressed that the kids cared enough to want to know more. Coloroso is going to speak tonite at 7 p.m. at the MHS theater to parents about being “backbone” (as opposed to jellyfish) parents. I recommend to anyone who is a parent, guardian or grandparent to go. Gotta go. Gotta write the bully story for tomorrow’s paper. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article.
