April 5, 2010 - Cindy Votruba
Now I never know what to expect when covering a town’s Easter egg hunt, but I found out fast enough this past Saturday. I went to the one in Wood Lake that was started by a member of the community club who wanted to do something for the kids. The event even drew kids and their families from Marshall and Balaton.
As soon as the starting line was moved, it was a mad dash to scoop up eggs. I was like “I’d better try and get some photos of the kids in action,” which was hard to do. Kids were scattered everywhere picking up the plastic 1,200 eggs in the park. I didn’t watch where I was and stepped on one of them (I’m sure a kid collected that one anyway). It was all over in roughly seven minutes; maybe less.
But the kids raked it in Saturday morning. Not only did they get candy, they got some really nice prizes, such as games, dolls and craft kits. There was also a chance to win bicycles.
And I’ll admit that I was half-tempted to go back to the park later that afternoon to see if there just happened to be a leftover egg or two that managed to elude the kids; but I didn’t.
