Thelma and Louise--a couple of fun lovin' broads

May 21, 2010 - Karin Elton
This week it was my turn to write Monday’s business feature. The editor, Per, steered me toward a new restaurant that opened in Tracy, Thelma & Louise’s Bar & Grill.

I drove to Tracy this morning and found the restaurant on the corner of Third and South Streets in the business district. The building looks like the reddish buildings you see in Pipestone. It was built as a bank in the late 1890s and the restaurant has three original bank safes and a vault that holds a cozy table for two.

The main room has a 100+-year-old wooden bar which is a restored bar that was brought in from a Currie pool hall I was told.

The owners, Thelma and Louise, er Marge and Shirley, are in their early 70s who were bored with being retired and sitting home.

“If you stay at home, you don’t see anybody,” Shirley said, which is certainly true.

They said they are having a good time teasing their staff and chatting with customers.

All in all, I thought Marge and Shirley were a couple of pretty cool characters.
