Peanut butter with sprinkles

My 2010 Father’s Day could’ve been a complete wash, had it not been for the efforts of my soon-to-be 8-year-old daughter. I spent most of the day in my office putting Monday’s paper together — not a big deal, really, since I work every other Sunday. But this, of course, was a special Sunday, because it was Father’s Day. Thankfully, Olivia salvaged it for me by making breakfast in bed. Even though it wasn’t enough of a breakfast to make a Perkins cook blush — it was two pieces of peanut butter toast sprinkled (rather generously) with red sprinkles usually reserved for cookies or cake. I managed to get one of the pieces down, but let my golden retriever have the other. This, of course, is what Father’s Day is all about. It’s not about getting that flat-screen TV or new golf clubs as much as it is about the thought — Father’s Day and Mother’s Day are the epitome of it’s-the-thought-that-counts holidays.
