Nicki Rickard lost her battle with cancer Friday. For someone who doesn’t have a household name, Rickard touched many lives in her years in the area. The Marshall High School graduate owned her own pet grooming business outside of Marshall and handled animals so well it would make Cesar Millan blush. She trained horses, gave riding lessons and did grooming work for area vet clinics. She also taught a lot of young people how to take care of their animals, how to groom and care for them. Nicki passed on a world of knowledge about animals to hundreds of people. I met Nicki years ago and never trusted anyone else to groom my mini schnauzer. She always had time to talk animals with people like a nurse would take the time to talk about their patients. She was one of those really good souls — a sentiment shared by most, even if they didn’t have pets to drop off at her house for a grooming. Nicki will be missed by many people, including yours truly, and by a number of animals, too, I’m sure.
