Go see a show!
October 12, 2010 - Cindy Votruba
On Sunday, Ross and I went to the Lake Benton Opera House to see "Forever Plaid." I had never seen the show, had no idea what it's about, but was pleasantly surprised by what the actors did with it. Plus it was almost a full house for the last day of its run. The harmonies Mark Wilmes, John Voit, Tim Wall and Alan Riedel put together were incredible and they had great comedic timing, espeically during a three-minute version of the "Ed Sullivan Show." Since the "Ed Sullivan Show" was before my time, I didn't get too many of the gags, but my friends Maureen and Bob did. She remembered watching the show as a kid. And there's always more theater, concerts and comedy shows coming up in the area. Catch country duo Bomshel tomorrow night at 8 p.m. at SMSU. There's "Pine Creek Parish" at SMSU Oct. 30-Nov. 1. Also "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by the Marshall Area Stage Company will be the same weekend. The Southwest Minnesota Orchestra will perform Oct. 31 as well. Dave Mordal of "Last Comic Standing" fame will be at the Landmark Mercantile on Nov. 6. And of course, there are countless other events coming up. Also, more than 50 theaters around the state are having a free night of theater through the month of October. The only catch is that you must never had visited the theater before.
