'Ching, chong?' Really, Rush?
January 28, 2011 - Per Peterson
Rush Limbaugh apparently doesn’t appreciate the times we live in. In response to criticism this blowhard has taken over his radio impersonation of Chinese President Hu Jintao where he said, “Hu Jintao was just going ching chong, ching chong cha,” Limbaugh said this: “Back in the old days, Sid Caesar, for those of you old enough to remember, was called a comic genius for impersonating foreign languages that he couldn’t speak. But today the left says that was racism; it was bigotry; it was insulting. And it wasn’t. It was a service.” Rush, you’re no Sid Ceasar. But you are right, it is racism. You’re wrong, though, in thinking that only those on left think so. I don’t think I belong to the left, but as an American, I agree: It’s racist. Right, left, top, bottom, it’s racist and this poor man’s Don Imus should be embarrassed. Limbaugh was speaking on his Jan. 19 radio show about how Hu Jintao’s speech during a recent visit to the White House wasn’t being translated. How is what Limbaugh said NOT demeaning? He then apparently launched into a 20-second imitation of the Chinese leader’s dialect. I didn’t think Limbaugh’s credibility level could get any lower. Guess I was wrong.
