A actual good award show

February 14, 2011 - Per Peterson
I felt old watching the Grammys on Monday night. Then Mick Jagger came on stage. Then?Barbara Streisand. Suddenly, I was young again. I’ve never been big on award shows, but I?planned on watching the Grammys knowing it would be more of a buffet of performances and less of an award show. Award shows are boring and are as overhyped as the Super Bowl, but with all the live performances, well, sorta live performances, complete with all the theatrics you can stomach, this one proved far more entertaining. Plus, what other show can you watch that includes such a range of performers — with classics Jagger and Streisand sandwiched between Lady Goofball and Emin(expletive)em. It was good move the Grammy people — is there a name for them??— made to go heavy on performances and sprinkle in an award from time to time. The Grammys, like every other award show, is still filled with pretentious, spoiled celebrities, but if you have to put up with them for 3 1/2 hours, at least it’s nice to watch them in their element — on stage singing and gyrating. Bob Dylan was singing, wasn’t he?
