The little things

May 2, 2011 - Deb Gau
It's been one heck of a weekend, sandwiched as it was between the royal wedding and the announcement of Osama Bin Laden's death. And here all this time I had been looking forward to it as just the weekend I got my car radio back.

Yep, I've had kind of a long winter alone with my thoughts while driving. The car battery died and was replaced not long after the worst of the cold set in, but I didn't have the security code needed to turn the radio back on. Until this weekend when I finally had a clear shot at taking it to the dealer's, I was breaking the silence by talking to myself a lot. Singing, too. To my embarrassment, I actually killed part of a solo drive to Minneapolis humming "The Song That Doesn't End."

But Saturday afternoon, pressing that scan button and hearing the sound of a Metropolitan Opera broadcast instead of my own nasal, off-key droning for the first time in what felt like forever? Bliss. It must really be the little things that help make life worthwhile.
