| | "Bridesmaids" reviewMay 18, 2011 - Karin EltonMy daughter and I went to see “Bridesmaids” Sunday night. That’s the movie starring (and written by) "Saturday Night Live" queen Kristen Wiig. Wiig is the best friend of Maya Rudolph who is getting married and also going into another world that doesn’t seem to include Wiig. There is a good movie in there somewhere, but there was too much slapstick and caricatures for my taste. I did laugh a lot — especially at Melissa McCarthy’s character. McCarthy is the “bigger gal” in the movie as my niece would say. I liked her the best. Didn’t really like Wiig’s character. Jon Hamm from “Mad Men” plays a minor character in the movie, but he played it too broadly, like see? I can play comedy too! Whee! And it didn’t need to be R-rated. They could have cut all the little bits that made it an R and it would have been better and leaner. I think the movie would have been a better rental than a movie movie.
