A marvelous day

June 6, 2011 - Karin Elton
Saturday afternoon a friend, her nephew and her two children and I went to Lake Stay park near Arco. It was a beautiful day — green trees and grass, blue sky and water. Perfection. Or so I thought. I didn’t even know what was missing until I heard it — Van Morrison music coming from an excellent sound system.

As the little girls and I waded in the refreshing water, I looked around to see where “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Moondance” were emanating from. I saw across the parking lot an outdoor wedding was about to ensue. A group in dress-up clothes was milling about. My friend said she saw a sign that said it was the BarberSomething wedding.

I immensely enjoyed their taste in music — it was so unexpected. It could have been anything — Carrie Underwood, which would have been fine, or Adele, also fine. But Van Morrison, an enduring singer from the 1960s, was the best.

We left just as the bridesmaids — wearing actually pretty dresses — started walking down the aisle. Our leaving was nice timing for them — they had the area to themselves for their special day. We hadn’t been loud or obnoxious, but it was probably nice for them not to have the distraction, however small.

The 9-year-old commented that the wedding march wasn’t being played as they walked down the aisle and I said this music was even better. You can have anything you want at your wedding.

So congratulations, BarberSomething! You picked an excellent day, location, clothing style and music for your wedding!
