Windows 8? Arrrrrrrrrrgh!

August 31, 2011 - Stephen Browne
Microsoft is coming out with a new "reimagined" Windows system.

Earth to Microsoft: WILL YOU PLEASE STOP DOING THAT?

I don't want a new Windows, the one I've got works perfectly OK, or at least it does now that I'm used to it. Oh, but you say this is new and does more things. I DON'T NEED MORE THINGS.

For heaven's sake, just visiting the Microsoft MSDN blog site which purports to explain the new system made my computer freeze momentarily and caused the Spinning Pinwheel of Death to appear on my screen.

I ran into this with my latest Microsoft Word. A few years back my old version became obsolete and wouldn't run on my new computer. I had to buy a whole new version of Word - which had changed around the familiar toolbars I'd gotten used to. It did lots of new things too - almost none of which I had any interest in doing. And for the things I did want to do, I couldn't find the controls anymore.

I'm asking you, if you think new and "reimagined" is better, how about we consider coming out with a whole new redesigned set of automobile controls every few years? How about we junk the alphabet from time to time and "reimagine" it?
