Checkin' Out the Shops

March 20, 2012 - Karin Elton
My 16-year-old daughters and I went shopping Saturday afternoon in Marshall. We checked out Urban Hollywood (Indie reporter Jenny Kirk wrote about the new boutique in the March 12 edition), a shop located in the Bot Appliance Store on Fourth and Main.

My girls actually liked the tops, bracelets and jeans that were on display. I was amazed. They don’t like anything — particularly suggestions from Mom.

After picking up a top and two bracelets and seriously eyeing a purse, we walked over to Italy Ava on Third Street and picked out some Nessa’s Naturals eye shadows and lip glosses created by Vanessa Torke (Independent March 17). One of my daughters, Vanessa, wanted the lip gloss because she could keep it in her purse and show off the “Nessa” part when she applied it.

My eyes are kind of allergic-y and the clerk said hers were too and she was able to wear the cosmetics. I’m wearing the “caramel” eye shadow now and it feels fine. She also said she uses one of the Nessa lotions on her arms which takes care of the small patch of eczema there. Since we bought more than $25 worth of stuff, a free lip gloss was thrown in with the purchase. All right!
