| | Life can be bright in AmericaNovember 8, 2012 - Karin EltonI’m blown away by the thought that there could be a 51st state. “A slim majority of Puerto Ricans sought to change their ties with the United States and become the 51st U.S. state in a non-binding referendum that would require final approval from Congress,” according to the Associated Press. Puerto Ricans already are citizens of the U.S., but they can’t vote. Not since Hawaii became the 50th state in 1959 has there been another state added. There are a lot of ramifications from this. We’ll have to re-do all of our flags or maybe just sew a little piece onto flags to accommodate Puerto Rico — or take out a state. Maybe Iowa. Article CommentsNo comments posted for this article.
