Fun in spite of the weather

December 10, 2012 - Karin Elton
I counted seven cars in the ditch on Highway 7 and 23 this morning on my way back from the cities. In addition to the cars, there was one van and two trucks. I think the drivers get over-confident of their four-wheel drive system and drive too fast for the conditions.

I guess I’m glad I didn’t try to make it back from the cities Sunday as I had planned. I didn’t think the weather would be that bad when I drove to my sister’s house in Excelsior Saturday morning. We drove to another sister’s house in northeast Minneapolis to celebrate her birthday. We had lunch at The Local, an Irish Pub that blasted non-Irish music, and shopped at Macy’s. It was fun walking around downtown among the other shoppers because it wasn’t frigidly cold or windy.

My oldest son made a trek to the cities this weekend as well. A friend of his had an extra ticket to the Vikings game. My son said he had lots of fun watching Adrian Peterson rack up the yards. My son’s name is Adrian and he was wearing his Peterson jersey so I like to think that had something to do with the successful game Sunday. After the game however, reality set in and my Adrian had to stay another night at a friend’s house in Hopkins because of the ton of snow.

OK we’ve had our winter experience and now I’d like to get back to the mild temperatures and no snow.
