Perks of AP Classes
July 8, 2013 - Samantha Downing
I AM FOREVER DONE WITH MATH! Obviously there are still practical situations that will come up, but I will never have to sit through another math class again. By about January of this past year, I was seriously questioning my sanity by taking the fast track for math at our school. In three years, I had taken 6 math classes: Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics, Trigonometry, and AP Calculus. I enjoyed every one of them until I got to the last. Calculus was not for me. For the first time, I struggled through the three-quarter class. As awful as it was, I am now done. I passed both my AP Stats and AP Calculus BC test with a 4 (equivalent of a college B) and Calculus AB with a 5 (equivalent of an A). This past weekend I received my last two scores, and could not have been more excited. When I start college in a year, I will have 12 math credits. Yes, I have worked really hard in my classes while other high-schoolers have been able to float on by, but this work is paying off. The AP program is one that is nationally recognized by public and private colleges, giving everyone a shot at FREE college credit in high school.
