Gone too soon

September 24, 2013 - Karin Elton
Southwestern Minnesota has lost another artist this year — at a relatively young age. Along with Jim Dahl of Marshall, Duane Penske of Vesta has died. These two guys were constantly making art, whether it was quick sketches while sitting on a barstool as in Dahl’s case or the caricatures that Penske could so well.

Dahl created many works of mixed media art in his 54 years — art that can be seen around Marshall and beyond as did Penske in his 51 years on earth. Many Southwest Minnesota State University students walk by one of Penske’s distinctive wooden three dimensional pieces at the Student Center. It's called “It’s Lonely Out Tonight.”
