Leave Obama alone for now … please

December 28, 2008 - Per Peterson
The following statement has nothing to do with politics or my political affiliation (I don’t have one, by the way): I’m sick of Barack Obama. Sick, sick, sick. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’ll make a fine president and will get this country turned around with the help of the strong cabinet he’s assembled. But I’m already sick of him. And I’m blaming the media. I expected to hear and see Obama’s name in the news ever since he was nominated as president back in November, but I want to hear what he has to say about our economy, the war, education, transportation, things like that. Well, thanks to some slow news days, the media is doing its best to come up with worthless copy that has no effect on our lives. Just this weekend, we’ve seen and heard the story of the Obama’s living without power while vacationing in Hawaii. Show me three people who care. Yet, it was on every major news station. Then, on Sunday, an AP “broke” about Obama’s hourlong morning workout at a Marine Corps base near his vacation home. The story said the Obamas are trying to keep a low profile on the trip. Yeah, right. The media — and the camera — loves Time’s Man of the Year and his wife, Michelle. What we've been seeing on TV of Obama the last couple days is more fit for Entertainment Tonight than major network news converage. Sunday's AP story went on to say that Obama has no public schedule through the New Year. Yes he does — everything the guy does is public, and we have to hear about it. Personally, I’ll try my hardest to ignore 90 percent of what he does (or doesn't do) until he’s sworn in. Until then, I just don’t care.
