A couple of opportunities
January 28, 2009 - Cindy Votruba
Tomorrow and this weekend, the public has the chance to see Marshall High School kids do “a lot of talking.” And acting.
Tomorrow night, the MHS one acts team is doing a public performance of its competition piece. It’s based on stories from Ovid’s “Metamorphoses,” and the kids have put a lot of hard work in effort in developing their characters, building a set and there’s even a professional sound person helping them with sound cues. Should be a good show, so head to the high school theater at 8 p.m. tomorrow night.
Starting at 1 p.m. Friday and running through Saturday afternoon, about 800 speech students from a large number of high schools are competing in the annual Schwan Speech Spectacular. Sure, you’ll see a sea of black (with the kids wearing their business-like speech suits), but you’ll also see some great acting, funny creative expression pieces, storytelling and learn about some hot topic. The public is invited to attend any of the rounds, just check in at the information tables.
