It's been a great run

February 24, 2009 - Cindy Votruba
For the last eight years, I’ve been getting up at either 4 or 5 in the morning to trudge around in the dark doing two paper routes. It’s not so bad, except for the bitterly cold mornings, pouring rain or walking through knee-deep snow.

It’s been nice to earn a little extra money every month, and I’ll admit, I’ve gotten a lot of decent excercise.

But this Saturday marks my last official day of doing the paper routes. I thought about this decision for about a week before I made it. I’ve started doing more page design at the newspaper, which means working a little into the night. Then when I get home, I can’t fall asleep right away and 4 a.m. comes awful quick. What I think I need is a little more sleep.

I’m sure it will take a while to get my body and mind into a regular sleeping routine. I may be waking up at 3:57 a.m. in a cold sweat, thinking “I better get dressed and go pick up my paper bundles!”

I’ll still do one of my routes for a while until someone is found to take over, but I’ll admit, I’m ready to call it quits.
