Just a few ramblings

May 25, 2008 - Cindy Votruba
Boy, I didn't see that coming...David Cook winning American Idol. When I watched Tuesday's final 2 performances, I thought David Archuleta had it in the bag. Especially with the tongue bath he was getting from the judges. I thought, "oh, c'mon, Cook wasn't that terrible." And he sang with a little more versatility. Then came Wednesday night. I didn't get to see the results show live, but I rewound my tape to see who took all. I was just stunned.

Now I am an avid reader of a website called Television Without Pity. It snarks on television shows, commercials, award shows, talk shows, darned near anything media, except books. My favorite comment was about the guest artists on Wednesday's finale. There was George Michael, Bryan Adams and ZZ Top. The comment was "1985 called, it wants its music back." Yeah, what was it about '80s that night? BTW, Donna Summer sounded hot!

Since I don't have AI to chat about, I can go onto my next reality show..."The Bachelorette." Yeah, I watch that show every once in a while. I even watched this season of "The Bachelor: London Calling." Didn't agree with Matt's choice of Lorenzo Lamas' offspring, but I have no say in the matter.

Coming back to the '80s and being the geek that I am, I went out and bought the complete series DVD of "Square Pegs" starring a teen-age Sarah Jessica Parker. Why the show lasted only one season is still a mystery to me. There's even interviews with the cast 25 years later, with the exception of Merritt Butrick who died of AIDS in 1989. Great stuff.
