Looking for something to do?
April 15, 2009 - Cindy Votruba
If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, you have your choice of events — from tae kwon do to a Tony-award winning musical presented by SMSU. Or, if you’re a hunting and fishing buff, there’s the annual Tracy Area Sportsmen’s Show.
I’ll admit that I don’t know the first thing about hunting. Heck, I’ve never fired a gun. But I’ve been to the Sportsmen’s Show a couple of times, and it’s fun for everyone, from kids to adults. There’s also a women’s expo at the Veterans Center, along with the countless vendors, demonstrations, exhibits and other fun stuff at the Tracy Area High School Saturday and Sunday.
If you want a night out at the theater, the SMSU theater department is doing “The Secret Garden” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mainstage Theater. The Lake Benton Opera House is presenting the comedy “Suitehearts” at 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. “Suitehearts” is about a young couple from Pennsylvania who go to a fancy hotel in New York for a romantic getaway, but end up having to share a suite with an older couple from New Jersey. With a talented cast, the show is sure to entertain.
Lee’s Tae Kwon Do is having a tournament from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Marshall High School, which includes sparring and patterns.
Then there’s the troop sendoff starting at 5 a.m. Sunday. But that’s not all for Sunday. Just for Kix will have its spring show at 3 p.m. in the Marshall High School gym and the Route 68 Big Band and the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra is presenting a concert at 4 p.m. at the Schwan Community Center for the Performing Arts.
And who says there’s nothing to do around here?
