A couple of firsts

May 4, 2009 - Cindy Votruba
This past weekend was a weekend of firsts for me in a way...well, only two firsts to be exact.

The first “first” was going to a midnight showing of a movie. It was Thursday night and Clue rehearsal got done in Minneota around 11 p.m. Ross mentioned that there was a midnight showing of “X-Men Originals: Wolverine” at the Marshall 6. Now I’ve never seen the other three X-Men movies, but he did want to go, so I thought “oh, why not, a movie at midnight is something I’ve never done before.” Granted being awake until 2 a.m. on a work night wasn’t all that fun, but it was an enjoyable experience. There weren’t a whole lot of people at the movie, but you could tell they were psyched about seeing it.

The next “first” was going on a four-wheeler. My uncle Tom had a three-wheeler on his farm, and the cousins would take it out once in a while. One winter, a tobaggan was hitched to the back of the three-wheeler. Whoever was driving would do a sharp curve, we’d fall off, but it was fun. I never drove that vehicle. Well, Ross’ parents live on a farm and have a couple of four-wheelers. His nephew wanted to go on a ride and was actually willing to drive with me on it. I waited until Ross was free to be the “responsible” adult on this jaunt. We drove along the fields, along the drainage ditch and through the “dump,” where various pieces of the farm and farmhouse ended up throughout the years.

I also bought my first electronic toothbrush today at the dentist, but that wasn't as exciting...
