TV news: literally laughable

July 6, 2009 - Per Peterson
Politics is a serious business. Politicians are serious people who make serious decisions that effect/control our lives. So how am I supposed to take it seriously when FOX News reports that Sarah Palin "tweeted" a message to her supporters Sunday after her big decision. I can't even say the word "tweeted" without, at the very least, cracking a grin. Politicians, please don't tweet. Send out blanket e-mails if you have to, but when a news organization reports that you tweeted someone, it just makes you look silly. I know it's the latest and greatest thing, but for your sake and for the sake of your reputation, lay off the tweets. Makes Palin sound like a freshman in high school. And while on the subject of TV journalism, a note to ESPN "journalists" who said Steve McNair "passed away …" He was shot FOUR TIMES, twice IN THE HEAD. He was killed, murdered in cold blood. A 98-year-old woman in a hospice home" passes away." A cancer victim "passes away." A 36-year-old man who was shot four times with a semiautomatic doesn't "pass away," he dies. He was shot dead. In the newspaper business, we don't even write "passed away," we write "dies." One more reason to not watch ESPN; like I needed another. Sorry, just venting from a newspaper man.
