A little bit of dorm envy
August 21, 2009 - Deb Gau
It's move-in week again over at SMSU, which means I've spent some time over in the residence hall part of campus. I wasn't able to actually help my mom and my sister (she's a junior this year) schlep boxes up four flights of stairs, which makes me feel a little guilty. But I did run a few last-minute forgotten things over to campus this morning.
When you're out there, it's flat out impossible to ignore the new dorm complex, Sweetland Hall. Having been inside for its grand opening and dedication, I can say the students that get to live there (sadly, not my sis) are getting a pretty sweet ride. On-site laundry, air conditioning, wi-fi - all sorts of little things that people just had to suck it up and go without when I attended SMSU. And that was only three years ago!
I guess I'm jealous, but only because I barely missed out. On a more serious note, I know anything that makes campus life easier and more appealing for prospective students can be a draw for the university, and by extension for the community. So to the newly moved-in students, I really do hope you enjoy your new digs! Feel free to stick around awhile.
