| | Sounds and Sights of SummerAugust 21, 2009 - Karin EltonThe on and off rain Thursday was off just long enough for the Sounds of Summer ribfest to take place at Liberty Park. The park was filled with people eating really good food — Hitching Post ribs, coleslaw, beans and a beverage. There was Cat Stevens-esque live music in the background and lots of visiting going on. The playground was filled with climbing kids on the “pirate ship.” I saw one adult climb to the prow of the ship and yell, “I’m the king of the world!” Oh, that was me and I did it for a certain newspaper editor’s amusement. One little girl, the sister of one of my daughters’ friends, had fun at the playground and had enjoyed her hot dog. The Hello Kitty-clad youngster was adept at getting the last bit of ketchup off the side of her face with her tongue. She could hold a conversation and clean her face at the same time.
