Wednesday in Wood Lake

August 28, 2009 - Cindy Votruba
Wednesday night I went to the Wood Lake Community Fair for the first time. I’ve been in the area for more than a decade and it’s one of the few events I hadn’t been to.

And people are right, it was packed in the downtown area that night. The first thing I wanted to do was get one of those famous Community Club burgers I’ve heard so much about. Granted Ross and I had to stand in line for a while, but it was worth the wait. The fries were good, there were even grilled onions.

Then there was the parade. I didn’t know how long it would be, but it was a good-sized parade. Lots of old cars and several tractors. There were even people handing out milk and nachos. Then Ross wanted to get pie. I’m like, I haven’t even digested the burger and fries, now he wants dessert? So we went for pie and then looked around the community center at the exhibits.

After the exhibits, I basically watched Ross spend $8 on the coin drop game. But we also went on the bumper cars, which was fun. All in all, it was a good time at the fair, except I’ll admit, I got a little tired at the end of the day.
