Adventures in FarmVille

October 19, 2009 - Cindy Votruba
There’s several different games Facebook users can play on the social networking site. These include Mafia Wars, Cafe World, some Pirates game, Tetris, Farkle (I’ve been invited to play, but have no idea what it’s about) and FarmVille and FarmTown.

A while ago, I kept getting a slew of FarmVille gifts from different friends. Before I knew it, I had a pile of trees, animals and decorative shrubs I could use for the farm. At first I had no idea what I was doing. I had planted some crops, but since I didn’t really tend to them right away, I’d have withered strawberries. Geez, I can’t take care of a virtual farm.

FarmTown and FarmVille are almost the same, except in FarmVille, you actually have to look after the animals, milk them, collect duck feathers, wool, etc. My FarmVille farm is kind of ragtag. I have a mess of trees, a few plots of plowed land that currently is growing wheat (I’ve since done soybeans, pumpkins and a couple other crops), four cows, two baby elephants (don’t exactly know why they’re considered a farm animal!), two ducks, three sheep and a pig. I also have FarmVille “neighbors,” Facebook friends that are also playing FarmVille. I’d go to visit their farms and am just blown out of the water. They have acres of crops, farm machinery, a boatload of animals, buildings, etc. And all are in neat rows or nicely arranged. Good grief, when do they have the time to do this? I just plopped down trees willy nilly on my virtual patch of land. The animals are basically standing next to each other. But luckily no animal has died, my crops are doing ok if I harvest them on time and somehow I keep earning gold coins.
