Vikes deserved a win Sunday
October 25, 2009 - Per Peterson
No one thought the Vikings were going to go undefeated this season. Before Sunday, they were winning kinda ugly, pulling victory from the hands of defeat, playing down to their opponents’ level. Yet, they were 6-0. They deserve to be 7-0. The Vikings outplayed Pittsburgh on Sunday. Their defense, including a makeshift defensive secondary sans Antoine Winfield, stepped up and played its best game of the season, shutting down one of the best passing games in the league. The offense moved the ball almost all day. But you can’t turn the ball over against great teams like Pittsburgh, and that’s exactly what the Vikings did. Brett Favre came back down to earth with a fumble that was returned for a TD and a pick that was also returned for a score. But don’t blame Favre for the pick; that’s on Chester Taylor. Still, the 40-year-old, despite not throwing a touchdown amassed from than 350 yards through the air. Turnovers and red zone offense killed the Vikings on Sunday, even though they played more like an undefeated team against the Steelers than at any other time of the season. The Vikings didn’t deserve to beat San Francisco a few weeks ago and did. They didn’t deserve to lose against Pittsburgh and did. Even though they lost, Vikings fans should feel better about this team today than at any other time of the season. If they play like this next week, they’ll win against the Packers and — you saw it here first — win the division.
