Vikings deserve TCF, not Gophers
November 25, 2009 - Per Peterson
While in the Cities this past weekend, my kids, brother and I took a drive down to the University of Minnesota campus to catch a glimpse of the Gophers’ new football stadium, TCF Stadium. It’s quite an awesome sight, whether you like football or not. As we were driving away, it dawned on me that — considering the Vikings’ current stadium plight and the fact that they're arguably the best team in the NFL to date — the wrong team is being spoiled. I say shove the Gophers back into the Dome until they prove they can start winning more than six games a year and let the Vikings take over TCF Stadium. They simply deserve it more. It would be a simple transformation, really. Just take everything that’s maroon-colored and paint it purple. Sure, the Vikes, who, if they're not careful could find themselves playing in the Super Bowl this year, would have to play in front of smaller crowds, but they deserve this plush new stadium and all the amenities that come with it more than the Gophs do. The way both team’s seasons are shaping up it seems only fair to let the Vikings enjoy TCF Stadium the rest of this year and next. They should get to play there indefinitely until they get a new stadium of their own built. Until then, let the Gophers go back to digging holes in the Metrodome.
