| | Things I learned this ThanksgivingNovember 27, 2009 - Karin EltonI learned that you CAN have too much of Justin Bieber. My 14-year-old had Justin Bieber on the CD player on the way to Tyler and back to pick up my sister and then on when I drove her back. I learned that it’s hard to cook while you are in transit forth and back to Tyler from Marshall. Our T-day meal took place in the evening, which is fine, but people hadn’t eaten all day thinking the meal would be in the early afternoon. I learned that you really should have cornstarch on hand to make gravy. Adding flour to water makes for a lovely paste. I’m thinking the next pumpkin pie I make I will use aluminum foil to protect the outer pie crust from burning. I sacrifice the crust to make sure the filling is done. If I manage to not burn the crust, my next goal is to make the crust look pretty and even instead of sloppy and distorted. My step-son asked if the pie was homemade and I said, “You can look at the crust and still ask that?” Then I said to not eat the top crust — it’s just for looks.
