It just doesn't like the cold

December 16, 2009 - Cindy Votruba
The Beast, or in this case, my Jeep, decided not to start after church Sunday. Yes, it was a few degrees below zero with a -20 windchill, but it’s always started. I had dash lights, but it wouldn’t turn over. Nothing. Nada. Kaput. I waited until 4 p.m. when Ross drove into Marshall to see what he could do. First he decided to tap on the solenoid. Nope. Give the Jeep a jump start. Nope. We also went to Wal Mart to get a hammer as I didn’t own one, he didn’t bring one and he was using my walking stick to begin with. He checks the fuses and a couple other things before giving up.

So I call Lockwood on Monday, thinking it has to be the ignition switch or the starter. I watch as Southwest Towing takes the Jeep out of the Independent parking lot. A couple of hours later, I get a call from Lockwood. Get this, it started right up! It could eventually be the starter, but I wasn’t ready to spend another $300 on the Jeep as I already did the prior week for a new ball joint and alignment. Just another cold weather vehicle mystery.
