It was in the cards
Photo by Rae KrugerDenny McChesney has re-opened his card shop at a new site near the Marshall 6 Theatre. The store needed to be re-located from East College Drive after the strip mall was sold and torn down.
When a customer asked Saturday if a framed picture of former Minnesota Twins player Rod Carew on the top shelf in his card shop was for sale, Denny McChesney politely said “no” without hesitation.
The top shelf is for keeps at Denny’s Card Shop on West Lyon Street near the Marshall 6 Theatre.
“That’s part of the problem,” McChesney said. “Being able to sell the stuff.
“A lot of it doesn’t make it to the (display) case.”
McChesney’s keepers, like the Carew picture and the autographed picture of former Twins player Harmon Killebrew have too much sentimental value for McChesney. But he’s also a businessman, and when he finally got enough of a certain Killebrew baseball card, that card reached a display case and was marked “for sale.”
Enough of the stuff makes it to the display cases to thrill long-time and new customers who are happy the shop has re-opened from East College Drive, McChesney said.
