MARSHALL — During the 2009-10 regular season, only one team was able finish a game closer than 18 points of undefeated MACCRAY. That team was Minneota, and the Vikings did it twice. Minneota lost to the Wolverines by 16 in their first meeting on Feb. 16, then fought MACCRAY down to the wire in a 71-66 loss 10 days later. Saturday, the Vikings again gave the Wolverines all they could handle in the Section 3A-North finals, but again MACCRAY proved to be just a little too much for Minneota. Tied at 56-56 with seven minutes, 10 seconds left in the second half, Minneota’s Tony Noyes picked up his fifth foul. Without Noyes, who finished with 18 points, the Vikings were outscored 22-10 down the stretch and MACCRAY escaped with a 78-66 win at the R/A Facility at Southwest Minnesota State University. The Wolverines went 16-of-20 from the foul line after Noyes fouled out to keep the Vikings at bay.
