MARSHALL —Down by 12 points with eight and a half minutes remaining, things looked a little bit bleak for the Canby girls basketball team in the Section 3A finals at the R/A Facility at Southwest Minnesota State. But the Lancers dug down deep and went on a 14-2 run, tying the contest at 48-48 with 4:45 left to play. Canby took the lead on the next possession and then traded baskets with Southwest Minnesota Christian in the finals minutes. Possession of the ball became priceless, and in the end, the dream season came to a close for Canby. “SWC is a very good basketball team and we wish them the best of luck,” Canby head coach Kevin Hansen said. “It came down to the final possession of the game. We got down by 12, but we felt we were coming back and we did. We never gave up and we haven’t all season. I’m very proud of our effort and our girls.” With 11.1 seconds remaining, Jenni Vander Veen came up huge for SWC after rebounding a teammates missed perimeter sho.
