ST. PAUL (AP) — Controlling the rise of local property taxes vexed lawmakers and the governor and kept them from reaching a session-ending deal on Thursday, the same day Minnesotans were due to pay those taxes for the first half of the year.
Democratic House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher went a morning meeting Thursday with Republican Gov. Tim Pawlenty saying she is maintaining an ‘‘open mind and a feeling of optimism’’ about reaching a deal. They broke around lunchtime with plans to reconvene in the afternoon.
