The Dems are committing political suicide this time around too! Never has the threat of tyranny been so great in this country and people are noticing it. The Dems want to restrict our guns with this at our doorstep? Looks like its back to diapers and bunny ears after this term Al Franken.

Anybody find it disturbing that China is demanding that Americans be disarmed immediately? 3 times since Sandy Hook they have made that demand. We owe China so much cash we can never pay them back so now they want assets, our4 land. They have texas oil and great lakes water already. They want to move in and bring their communism with and they cant do it unless we have our guns taken.

Our politicians have sold us out to China. Our jobs, our country and nobody even realizes this. they only option we have to save our country is to take up arms, arrest all the criminals in DC and all the big banks and throw them in prison. The so called men in this country dont have the balls to start American Revolution 2 cuz that is what we need!

Don't believe the counts on Agree/Disagree. The Independent blocks some votes.

If these socalled politicians would be half as concerned about illegals robbing us blind and enforce the laws already on the books things would be better but as long as we have selective law enforcement running the country and no one to stop giving the countries assets away it won't change. If you look at the perpetrators none of them followed any law did they? So how much sense does it make to make more laws. Enforce what we have. What did these perpetrators have in common? Were they tea party members? Maybe their family members were loyal conservatives? or maybe they were liberals? Were they taking mood altering drugs? Nobody has said one thing about that. If they had mental problems maybe they should have been confined. This is going to turn out just like obummercare - a bunch of idiots signing legislation without reading it.

Unfortunately alot about firearms is lack of education. Passing any laws while still emotional from the recent shootings just attacks something that is demonized by the mainstream media and is being demonized because of a lack of education and acting on fear not logic. If we step away from the situation and act logically maybe the real issues can be addressed and REAL solutions can be acted upon. Taking firearms from the 99.9% that are legal owners and users is not the answer no more than taking cars away from everyone because of those few who make poor choices and drive drunk.

Great balls of fire! This is terrible! To think that ANYONE should have to go through a background check before buying a gun is outrageous! I'm almost sure that's a violation of one of my rights! And keeping a database is just a way for the gubmint to spy on me before they come to steal away my guns. Plus limiting the clip size means I can only shoot 10 rounds before I have to reload. My gun will be totally worthless! This is just an attempt by socialist, radical, leftist, bleeding heart liberals and the Chinese to take away all our guns. Its a conspiracy! This is the end of civilization as we know it. We are doomed!

Currently in MN, in order to purchase a handgun or rifle that doesn't look like Matt Dillion's on Gun Smoke, you need a Permit to purchase/transfer.

For this permit, you are required to allow Minnesota Department of Human Services access to all information involving:

Confined as a result of an emergency mental health or other type of hold order Confined as a result of a court hold order

Committed by a court as mentally ill, developmentally disabled or mentally ill and dangerous

Committed by a court as chemically dependent

Found incompetent to stand trial or have been found not guilty by reason of mental illness

A peace officer informally admitted to a treatment facility for chemical dependency ***

Any more than this becomes a bit invasive in order to practice a right. Basically, if you apply for a permit, all rights to privacy are surrendered.

This is above and beyond the National Instant Criminal Background Check System required by the Feds.

"There's about 40 percent of gun sales that don't have to go through background checks because they're considered 'private' sales at gun shows, or online sales, person-to-person, garage sales."~Heather Maertens

So Per. Did you do your homework and find any cases where one of those "40%" Minnesota purchased guns was used in a rampage killing? Or any killing?

Much ado over a problem that doesn't exist.

DHS buys 7000 full-auto assault rifles, calls them ‘personal defense weapons’. Apparently, when YOU hold an AR-15 (semi-automatic), it’s an “assault rifle.” But magically, if you hand that same rifle to an armed government homeland security enforcer, it instantly transforms itself into a “personal defense weapon". Why do people think that when they pass a law it cures the problem?

Actually, Prod, no agency or group tracks that information, so it's not available. If gun owners had to register and license their guns, then we would know the answer. Great idea Prod!

Although Minnesota constantly ranks among the safest places in America, the state has fairly liberal gun rights. Minnesota gun laws are neither complex nor revolutionary, but instead fairly basic for a Midwest state.

It isn't tracked because it has never proved to be an issue. Same reason we don't have Coast Guard on Dead*****patrolling for Somalian pirates.

I honestly think that something that NEEDS to happen here is that if a News agency reports things wrong Like the major news media outlets did during Sandy Hook that there should be a fair punishment levied against them... Hyping up gun Violence will only strengthen those who oppse it but won't let our rights get trampled on like the rest of the Sheep that Voted for our current president

Sounds like some people think having SOME gun restrictions means 99.9% of legal gun owners will have their guns taken away. Wrong. Gun activists like to make this an all or none issue to sensationalize their opinion. Don't believe that hype.
