Evidently most of these people never owned a small business. So they raise the minimum wage to $9.00 from the current $7.25 That would mean the employer not only would have to pay the extra .14 cents a hour for Social Security. They would have to pay extra on the umemployment. In my business I paid 8%. So that would be about another .14 cents. Now the employer has to come up with an extra $2.03. This will also increase his liability insurance. I don't think our economy can take this right now. We just need good jobs not pay increases.

There is a lower minimum wage for true "small" businesses that earn less than $500K, currently $5.25 in MN. If your business makes that much or better a year you should be able to pay your employees something closer to a living wage.
There is ample evidence that a higher minimum wage doesn't stiffle employment. Look at Australia, where the minimum wage is over $16 USD, and unemployment is under 6%.

Good jobs is the key. The only ones that can live with min wages are the illegals who get help from the gov. Higher fuel has meant higher groceries, higher everything and pity the poor fellow trying to make a living at min wages. Jobs are the key and nobody seems to understand that. Higher wages will bring higher taxes, higher costs of all products produced. I would suggest if you want to make 16.00 a hr starting out better save money for your trip.

Let's have any legislators opposed to raising the minimum wage live on minimum wage for a year and then revisit the issue...

Also, comparing incredibly violent political repression to raising the minimum wage to right around the federal poverty line seems a bit extreme, does it not?

Minimum wage was $3.35/hr. for years when I was starting out. It was not enough for a person to live on without roommates and a dirt cheap apartment. Many people I work with can't make it on today's wages and I support this increase, though it is quite a hike. Where are big don's "good jobs" going to come from? That's just a dart thrown out in the dark.

Because of years of "job creators" being able to take advantage of the lower/middle class. Cite your examples and I will cite mine.

Why not have a $20 per hour minimum wage?

Just go to the Dept of Labor and you can see the net jobs lost, the number of people who have quit looking for work. Then go look at the food stamp numbers, the "safe Phone" program for people who are grafting off the taxpayers, etc.
Do your own research, common.
