If higher cigarette tax hurts the lower class more, maybe they should consider spending their money in ways to improve their own and their children's lives instead of blowing it on cigs or other vices. That is not a nice thing to say, but it's the truth. Also eliminate state legislator expense reports.

If there is anything I hate it is the duh! masses lecturing other people on how they should spend their money. Your vice is you want to decide how much money people get to have and what they may do with it. Who do you think you are? Oh. I forget. "the children" The children who not everyone even has. Bottom line is you don't know who in the well you are addressing or what in the well their lives are like. But all you know how to do is scold, scold, scold. It's people like you com-unman who give this state a bad name. Don't know how to live in Minnesota? Just ask the local buttinsky. He has all the answers.

Gee WW07, I don't see that rangeral posted a comment. Generally he is the only contributor who ignores an article or letter’s subject matter and instead ridicules the opinions of others.

WW, bottom line is, second hand smoke affects everyone who chooses not to smoke; drives up health care and insurance costs; takes money out of my pocket because you can bet those costs are passed on to everyone. I stand by my comment and I hope you are an avid smoker.

There is a literary term for that...I will remember it presently. Makes you look silly rather than brilliant though, doesn't it?

"...drives up health care and insurance costs; takes money out of my pocket because you can bet those costs are passed on to everyone." You lose. Second hand smoke-lore is a myth, for one thing. For another, if smokers die younger then their medical care total is less than it would be if they lived another 10 or 20 years. You needn't worry in any case. Ive heard that the more obnoxious you are the longer God lets you live. You com(mie)-unman should live a long long time.

WW, I'm sorry you are a bitter person. Are you kidding about second hand smoke? My parents smoked and not only did I stink like smoke compared to other kids, it affected my lung capacity. Not to mention how much more retirement money they could have had. Your argument is just anger because you can't kick the habit.

Common, great to hear you're all for cleaning up the environment. I imagine you mow your yard with a non-gasoline powered mower, you trim with a hand trimmer, you rake instead of using a leaf blower, you take your bicycle to work whenever you can, you shovel snow instead of using power equipment, and you drive a Prius. Didn't notice you commenting on the pollution advisory we had last week. Haven't ever seen you comment on the topic of the DNR advising to only eat one meal of fish a week caught from area lakes. Evidently these types of pollution don't really bother you like second hand smoke.
