Sorry, but a hero is someone who did sacrifice his/her life in service, whether it be military or not.

To those who are willing to make the sacrifice you are very courageous, and have my highest respect. However, there should be a distinction between those who are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice and those who did; that's the respect the word hero deserves.
