Don't mess with it. That steel is a moment frozen in time, and shouldn't be altered. That day needs to be remembered, and looking at trees won't do it.

Paint the steel girder in the park. The rust has to go - it will only get worse.

Memorial park is pretty ugly. Having that chunk of steel and surrounding scape there to honor firefighters is like putting mangled car parts at the center of a memorial to emts. Honoring them - good idea. This way - ugly ugly ugly especially at this location of town.

The city should reconsider the planning of that space before it goes forward on any more projects there, and think! perhaps that trees and living things would be the best way to honor firemen, veterans and those who have served instead of ugly concrete and steel imprinted with the spirits of the dead.
