Work to resume at site of Saints' new ballpark

September 17, 2013
Associated Press

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Work will resume Wednesday at the site of the new St. Paul Saints ballpark where a demolition worker was killed last week.

According to a statement from Ryan Companies, debris and salvaged materials will be cleaned up at the site in the next several days. However, no additional demolition is being done for now.

Rachel Contracting, the subcontractor in charge of razing the Gillette/Diamond Products building, was reviewing the demolition plan.

The Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/16hDt2j ) reports a private memorial service was held Tuesday at the downtown ballpark site for 61-year-old Johnny Valek of Plymouth. Valek was killed last Tuesday when a concrete portion of the building crashed onto the cab of his backhoe.

The $63 million ballpark is scheduled to be ready for the Saints' home opener in May 2015.
