19 people arrested after Gophers' Frozen Four loss

April 13, 2014
Associated Press

DINKYTOWN, Minn. (AP) — Minneapolis Police say 19 people have been arrested after crowds filled the streets of Dinkytown following the Gophers' NCAA hockey title game loss.

Union College defeated Minnesota 7-4 Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. But crowds spilled into Dinkytown streets near the University of Minnesota campus after the game.

Police say in a statement that two known incidents of arson were reported, along with an undetermined amount of property damage. They say no law enforcement members were injured but declined to release further details.

The Minnesota Daily reports (http://bit.ly/1gpJIcP) police had vowed to thwart possible unrest following Saturday's game. The Daily says officers were armed with zip ties and nonlethal weapons that were fired into the crowd as a mounted patrol unit advanced and helicopters circled overhead.
