The Mustangs have a lot going in the early 2009. Take a look at the line-up of SMSU Athletic and Booster Club events.

The Minnesota Twins Caravan will be at the SMSU Conference Center ballroom on Jan. 22 with Minnesota Twins Pitchers Kevin Slowey and Jesse Crain, Fox Sports Net's Bert Blyleven and Twins Radio Network's John Gordon. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 6:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $6 and $4 for 12 and under. Call 537-7271 to reserve a ticket.

The event is presented by Marshall Radio, Charter Communications and the Mustang Booster Club will be the host for the event. Event proceeds will go to the athletics department.

SMSU athletics hall of honor banquet tickets on sale

Tickets for the ninth induction into the SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor on Jan. 24 can be reserved by calling the athletics office. The luncheon starts at 1 p.m. on the second floor of the SMSU Conference Center. Tickets for the lunch and ceremony are $15 per person and must be reserved by Jan. 20. This year's inductees include former football player Bruce Saugstad; former baseball player Chris Pack; former volleyball player Paige Karno; former tennis player Carolina Gomez; and community members and long-time supporters of SMSU athletics, Sheldon and Marge Haaland. The SMSU Athletics Hall of Honor was established in 1992. It inducts new members every two years.

Pancake Breakfast for Scholarships at Applebee's Jan. 24

An all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast supporting regional scholarships at Southwest Minnesota State University will be held from 7:30-10 am on Jan. 24 at Applebee's in Marshall.

The Saturday morning Mustang radio show will be broadcast live from there from 9-10 am on KMHL, 1400 AM.

Tickets for the breakfast are $6 for adults and $4 for those 12-and-under.

The event will kick off Hawaiian Night activities.

The Mustang women's and men's basketball teams will play Wayne State University at 6 and 8 respectively that night. For more information, call 537-6266.

Gold Rush raffle rickets available

The 6th Annual Gold Rush Raffle will be held on Friday, Feb. 20. Tickets for the $5,000 grand prize are $50.00 each. Call 537-7204 for tickets.

If you have not been to the Gold Rush Raffle, you should buy a raffle ticket and join us for a night of fun, friendship and laughter. Every year the raffle gets great reviews from the people who attend. It is a social event you will not want to miss with cash prizes, give-aways, games, and silent and live raffle items. The Gold Rush is sponsored by the Mustang Booster Club and has sold out for six years.

Athletics Teams Update

This is an exciting time for the Mustang wrestling team as it defeated the University of Mary this past Saturday and will wrestle Augustana at 7 p.m. Friday in the PE-Gym. The Mustang women's and men's basketball teams will play St. Cloud State Friday and Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday.

Stay warm! Go Mustangs!

Mike Leischner correctly answered the Mustang Hoofprints question last week. Trivia Question : If the R/A Facility was at full capacity for the men's and women's basketball games how many people would be in attendance? Note: Person closest to the maximum capacity wins. Answer: 4,000. Congratulations, Mike!

Thank you to all who submitted answers to last week's trivia question.

Who was SMSU's opponent on Hawaiian Night last year? Did the women's team win? Did the men's team win?

The first person to e-mail me at with the correct answer to this question will receive a T-shirt. Please include your first and last name and phone number with the correct answer. The winner will be announced on The Saturday Morning Mustang Show between 9-10 a.m. on 1400AM each week.
