How many ... does it take to change a light bulb?
How many Presbyterians does it take to change a light bulb? None - Lights will go on and off at predestined times (you might have to be Presbyterian for that to be funny)
Or perhaps 10 - one to change the light bulb and nine to talk about how the old light bulb was better.
And of course- Change?!? What do you mean, change?
There are a bunch of light bulb jokes out there. There are punch lines for every profession and group. Presbyterian happens to be my tribe, but here are some "churchy" ones without denominational labels.
How many campfire worship leaders does it take to change a light bulb? One. But soon all those around can warm up to its glowing.
How many TV evangelists does it take to change a light bulb?
One. But for the message of light to continue, send in your donation today!
How many youth pastors does it take to change a light bulb?
Youth pastors aren't around long enough for a light bulb to burn out
Light bulb jokes are ultimate "insider" humor - we laugh only because we can recognize something true about our quirks and habits.
As Christians, we have many different traditions and customs for living out our call as believers in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Some of our habits, especially to outsiders, can even be a bit quirky. For all our differences, the heart of what we share is certainly not a joke.
In this season, Christians celebrate the Light of Christ coming into the world - the Light that the darkness has not and cannot overcome. We are called to be nothing less than the Light of Christ, bringing hope and peace, joy and love, not just in Advent, but also through the year.
How many Christians does it take to change a Light bulb? It takes you and me, being the Light of Christ, right here and right now. This season, what if we all did what we were able to make God's Light visible? Of course, we also know that the Light does not depend on our doing the work of screwing in the bulb. The Light is already present, bulb or no bulb. So go out and let it shine, let in shine, let in shine!
