Hoemberg to celebrate 50 years as sister Jan. 31

Sister M. Ellen Hoemberg will celebrate 50 years of consecrated life as a Schoenstatt Sister of Mary, Sunday, Jan. 31.

The celebration begins with 10 a.m. mass at St. John Cantius Church, in Wilno. It will be followed by an invitation brunch for close family and friends at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Ivanhoe. All in the communities are invited to an open house reception from 1-4 p.m. with a 2 p.m. program at St. John Cantius.

Hoemberg has been an active parish minister since the Rev. Robert Goblirsch extended an invitation to her to be the Director of Religious Education for grades 1-12 and parish minister for the two parishes 32 years ago. In her position, she is also responsible for the sacramental preparation. Of particular love, are the classes preparing second- graders for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion. She also works closely with the high school students in preparation for Confirmation.

Also in her ministry she plans the vacation bible school, Christmas programs, and visiting the sick and shut-ins. Recently, with the formation of an area faith community, Hoemberg also became the religious education director for the parishes of St. Dionysius in Tyler, and St. Genevieve in Lake Benton.
