Hello Mustang Fans!

We are a little over one week away from a great mid-winter social event held on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University, the Mustang Gold Rush Raffle. Tickets for the Mustang Gold Rush Raffle, sponsored by the SMSU Mustang Booster Club, are now available.

For more information or to purchase tickets, please call the SMSU athletic development office at 507-537-7204, or contact a Mustang Booster Club member. Information is also available online at www.SMSUmustangs.com.

The seventh annual Gold Rush Raffle will be held February 19 at the SMSU Conference Center starting at 7 p.m. A ticket costs just $50 and includes a chance to win the grand prize of $5,000. The price of a ticket includes free beverages and hors d'oeuvres during the social hour from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The reverse raffle will then begin at 8 p.m., and that's when the fun begins. Once the raffle begins, all the tickets that have been sold will be displayed on the board and will be called out with the lucky individuals winning great prizes. Great cash and prizes are given away with every 20th number drawn throughout the night.

If you have not experienced the Mustang Gold Rush Raffle, I would encourage you to purchase a ticket, or two, and join us in a great night of fun in support of the Mustang Booster Club.

The SMSU women's basketball team (14-8, 8-7 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) is on the road this weekend, traveling to St. Cloud State (8-14, 3-12 NSIC) on Friday and No. 22 Concordia University, St. Paul (18-4, 12-3 NSIC) on Saturday. Both games will start at 6 p.m.

The Mustangs are currently in a three-way tie for seventh place in the conference heading into this weekend. They are tied with Minnesota State University-Mankato and Northern State with this weekend's road contest being very important as the Mustangs head into the final stretch of their season.

The SMSU men's basketball team (13-8, 8-7 NSIC) will also travel to St. Cloud (18-4, 12-3 NSIC) and Concordia University (12-10, 9-6 NSIC) on Friday and Saturday. The men's games will start at 8 p.m. The Mustangs are in seventh place in the NSIC with Northern State and Upper Iowa being just one game back in the standings. It is also a big weekend for the men's team as the top eight teams in the NSIC will make the postseason conference tournament.

The SMSU wrestling team (2-4, 0-4 NSIC) has a pair of duals this week, including its home opener. Today, SMSU will travel to Morningside College (Iowa) for a 7 p.m. dual. On Saturday, the Mustangs will host Mary in the PE Gym at 3 p.m. in first of three consecutive home contests.

Today will be the third contest between SMSU and Morningside. The Mustangs are 2-1 against MC, while head coach Jesse Nelson has yet to face the team that shares a nickname with SMSU. Saturday marks the third meeting between SMSU and Mary. The Mustangs are 1-1 against the Marauders, while Nelson is also 1-1 versus Mary.

The Mustang tennis team opens its season Sunday in St. Peter against MSU-Mankato, with the match beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Mustangs finished the 2009 season with an 8-14 record and were 5-6 in the NSIC. The Mustangs finished seventh in the NSIC, bringing that seed to the NSIC Team Championship and returning with a fourth-place finish.

The Mustang wheelchair basketball team (1-8) will be back in action on February19-20 when it takes on the University of Illinois in Champaign, Ill.

Good luck to our Mustang teams this weekend. Go Mustangs!
